Art Conference
Wednesday 12 March at 7:15 p.m.
How do you define a masterpiece? What is it about Greek nudes from 440 BC or Rembrandt's last self-portrait (1669) that still captivates us? Where does the magic come from 13th-century African sculptures, or paintings by Monet or Matisse? How do we explain the craze for the minimalism of Mies van de Rohe (1950) or Christo's Arc de Triomphe in Paris (2021)? A chance to revisit these treasures of humanity's heritage, with commentary by Christiane Struyven, a top-flight lecturer who will be giving us the keys.
